Volunteer?
Thanksgiving and Christmas are fast upon us. We need help
answering phones, picking up food donations, sorting items for the 11
party sites, and delivering to the party sites. In addition, we
always need help on Thanksgiving and Christmas Days to set up, cook,
transport our eldery, and clean up. We continue our year round
programs of Visiting, Medical Transportation, and Birthday Parties and
still need volunteers for these programs. Call Cathy at
482-6944 for more information.

We are gearing up to stage our holiday parties on
Thanksgiving and Christmas days. On each day we'll have more than 350 seated
guests,
and send out another 350 meals to our homebound elderly friends. 300
volunteers will help us mail invitations, track responses, solicit
donations of food and party supplies, help us prepare and bake 65
turkeys for each party, stage the parties,
and transport our friends to and from the parties.
Our parties include turkey, sweet potatoes,
stuffing and white potatoes made from scratch, a decorated hall with a
table set with candles, music, and a memento and flower for each guest
before they depart. Our goal is to welome our guests
as we would members of our own families.
Our parties are designed for those elderly who
would otherwise spend this day alone, a common occurence in the Copper
Country.
Most of those we serve have children that have left the area in search
of employment, their spouse has passed on, their siblings
are deceased or too infirm get together. With mass transit limited to
the cities of Houghton and Hancock, most of our elderly
live outside the bus route. We recruit volunteers to transport our 300
guests on the holiday, and to deliver another 300 meals
to homebound.
